On April 4th and 5th, all Los Rios Colleges will hold student elections for their respective student governments and the Student Trustee. To vote, all students must log into eServices and go to the “Elections & Surveys” tab. Voting is open from 5:00am to 11:00pm on April 4th and 5th.
On April 3rd, Brett Sawyer, the Interim Student Life Supervisor, led the Student Election Forum: Meet the Candidates. The candidates answered a set of questions to allow students a better idea of who they will be voting for. Sawyer opened the floor up to questions afterwards. Both candidates for Folsom Lake College’s Associated Students were there. Zainub Tayeb is running for Senate President and Rebecca Kelley is running for Clubs and Events Board (CAEB) Commissioner. All candidates running for Student Trustee were present: Evan Nguyen (CRC), Tucker Zurawski (FLC), Nathaniel Adams (FLC), and Danny Thirakul (SCC).
Associated Students of Folsom Lake College will be out to answer questions and get the word out about elections on April 4th and 5th during college hour. On April 4th, they will be outside the Falcon’s Roost from 12:00pm to 1:00pm. On April 5th, they will be in the gymnasium catching students going to or leaving the career fair from 12:00pm to 1:00pm. If you have questions regarding the elections or if you need help, please feel free to visit the table or the Associated Students office (FR-106).
If you are interested in a position for Associated Students but did not run, do not fear! There will still be empty positions on next year’s boards. Associated Students of Folsom Lake College is split up into two boards: Student Senate and CAEB.
Student Senate is for advocacy of students. Student Senate is made up of eight executive board members (President, Vice President, Director of Legislative Affairs, Treasurer, Secretary, Communications Officer, Resolutions, and Parliamentarian) and fifteen senators. The President and Vice President have a requirement to have taken or be taking SGVT 300. The Communications Officer, Resolutions Officer, and Parliamentarian are by appointment only. Some duties and responsibilities include resolutions, voicing student opinion, and sit on participatory governance committees.
CAEB is for club life on campus. CAEB is made up of six executive board members (Commissioner, Vice Commissioner, Events Coordinator, Director of Finance, Secretary, and Historian) and ten at-large delegates. The Commissioner and Vice Commissioner are required to have taken or be taking SGVT 300. Some duties and responsibilities include chartering clubs, planning activities, and coordinating events.
“You don’t have to have some special skill set or knowledge to enjoy Associated Students. The thing we look most for in a student is how committed they are in participating in events and meetings. Building connections with the other officers, students, and even faculty is super important.” -- Christopher Wetz, Clubs and Events Board Vice Commissioner
Although Folsom Lake College does not have many people running for positions, there are multiple candidates running for Student Trustee from all four Los Rios campuses. To vote, please log into eServices and click the “Elections & Surveys” tab. Click the vote button and vote however you wish!
