Netflix recently announced that they have acquired the rights to adapt an original series based off of the best selling novel series 'Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events'. The books, authored by Lemony Snicket, follow the adventures of the three Baudelaire children- Violet, Sunny, and Klaus. The series chronicles the children's attempts to uncover the mystery behind their parents' deaths while simultaneously avoiding the contrary efforts of the evil Count Olaf.
In 2004, Paramount Studios released a movie based on the book, starring Jim Carrey as Count Olaf. The books themselves are written by Daniel Handler, a man “often mistaken” as the books author.
Vice President of Netflix Original Content, Cindy Holland stated: “The world created by Lemony Snicket is unique, darkly funny, and relatable. We can’t wait to bring it to life for Netflix members.” As of now, Netflix has not stated when the series will be available for streaming.
