A few weekends ago, I had the opportunity to go to The City of Stars and Universal Studios in Hollywood with my friend, Jordan. We had already anticipated, with the little planning that we had done, to see more than just the Wizarding World of Harry Potter in Universal Studios, but I had no idea just how many things I would be able to cross off my bucket list in that one weekend.
It was 7:00 PM when we hit the road, the car fully stocked with Monsters, Double shot espressos, and sandwiches for the 7-hour drive we had ahead of us. We hardly hit any traffic, and got to our Hotel in Burbank (Only 3 miles away from Disney Studios??!!!) at somewhere around 3:00 AM.
The next day we headed for Universal Studios and hopped the tram for the studio tour. The tour takes you on a different track every time, so this time I was able to see the clock tower from back to the future, city hall (which was featured in back to the future and to kill a mockingbird),the streets they use for New York and LA (in films such as Captain America and Spider-Man, as well as the set for Hairspray live. We decided the Wizarding World would be even cooler (and less crowded) at night, so we set out to find filming locations around LA. The first stop we made was to the Disney Studios, which was huge, beautiful, and heavily gated. Then, as we went to seek out The Office filming location, we tried navigating ourselves to the Friends fountain, but were disappointed to find that it was actually inside of Warner Brothers Studios, so we weren't able to see it.
Then we found it: chandler valley center studios.
I can't even express the exaltation I felt when I saw this building in all its grayish glory. As we were pulling up, I played the theme song to The Office (obviously). I promptly all but jumped out of the car and ran up to the gate that stood between me and what I can safely say was the filming location of my all time favorite tv show. I stood there just taking it all in before we took tons of pictures and videos. Before we left, I did a monologue from The Office that is given by Pam after she wins an award for having the whitest sneakers in the office.
I showed it to my fellow writers and the editors offered to let me share it with the readers of the Talon!
Here's the video of me fan-girling—enjoy!:
