This last Monday, September 23, 2013, over forty colleges from around the country were represented at Folsom Lake College’s Transfer Day. These colleges, which included--but were certainly not limited to--Sacramento State University, University of California, Davis, University of California, Berkeley, Southern Oregon University, and even an IV league, Columbia University, sent representatives to Folsom Lake College’s main campus to discuss possible transfer opportunities with a very eager sea of students.
The college representatives attracted students to their respective tables through the use of colorful banners and various displays of oh-so-enticing candies, post-its, and pens. While the environment was fun and casual, upon engaging in discussion with each of the college representatives, we, as students, were able to realize their seriousness and eagerness to help us. Not only were each of the representatives helpful and knowledgeable, but they also seemed genuinely interested in assisting us in reaching our educational goals.
Personally, Transfer Day not only provided me with a deeper respect for other institutions’ acceptance and interest in community college students, but it also allowed me to realize the great services and events that Folsom Lake College provides. My experiences so far with the transfer process—whether they be meeting with Chris Clark, making a quick call to the counseling office, or attending Transfer Days—have provided me with a very clear and detailed understanding of the transfer process. For these resources alone, I am very thankful to Folsom Lake College. The resources at this institution have not only allowed me to realize my transfer goals, but have granted me the knowledge and tools to pursue these goals as well. Should another Transfer Day or transfer opportunity come up in the future, I would encourage each of you to attend, as the information you can learn may just change the course of your educational path.
