Baseball wraps up three-game sweep at Modesto
Softball: Falcons nearly topple Sierra
After playing eight innings in 4+ hours at Falcon Field on Thursday night (the game was suspended due to 11:00 pm curfew), the FLC and Modesto baseball teams resumed play in the top of the ninth inning in Modesto on Saturday with the Falcons leading 17-7. Though the Pirates loaded the bases with one out, the Falcons prevented them from scoring and earned their second win of the series. The two teams combined for 22 walks, eight hit batters, and used 11 pitchers, which explains why they had only managed to play eight innings in over four hours on Thursday night. Freshman Aidan Malm hit his second home run of the season as the Falcons improved to 11-15 overall and 3-8 in the Big 8 Conference.

A few weekends ago, I had the opportunity to go to The City of Stars and Universal Studios in Hollywood with my friend, Jordan. We had already anticipated, with the little planning that we had done, to see more than just the Wizarding World of Harry Potter in Universal Studios, but I had no idea just how many things I would be able to cross off my bucket list in that one weekend.
It was 7:00 PM when we hit the road, the car fully stocked with Monsters, Double shot espressos, and sandwiches for the 7-hour drive we had ahead of us. We hardly hit any traffic, and got to our Hotel in Burbank (Only 3 miles away from Disney Studios??!!!) at somewhere around 3:00 AM.

As a student of all kinds of music, I was fascinated when I heard from one of my professors that—this semester—there would be a new performance ensemble. Commercial Music is a small class of musicians from varied musical backgrounds. Included in this ensemble is one classically trained singer (myself), one country musician, a handful of metal enthusiasts, and more from different genres. At first I wondered how such an eclectic group could perform together, but I feel so honored to have been a part of this class, which gave us a chance to learn and grow as musicians from playing together.
We will be performing live on March 16th during College Hour as part of a performance series being put on by FLC’s Music Club, which will take place every third Thursday of the month during the noon hour.
Our other performances will be held at the Harris Center, on March 30th at 7:00 pm at Center Stage 2; and on May 4th at 7:00 pm in the Recital Hall for an acoustic concert.

Feminism: The theory of the political, economic, and social equality of the sexes
On March 7, 2017, a group of Folsom Lake College Professors (Marsha Peralta, Diane Carlson, Gena Estep, Paula Haug, and Rebecca DeVille) came together to explain what feminism is and how throughout history and the media feminism has been portrayed as something negative.

Today marks the 113th birthday of the beloved Dr. Seuss, so I thought I would share excerpts from my favorite poem by him; Oh, the places you’ll go!
Congratulations! Today is your day. You’re off to Great Places! You’re off and away! You have brains in your head. / 1 You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose. You’re on your own. And you / 2 know what you know. And YOU are the guy who’ll decide where to go. You’ll look up and down streets. / 3 Look ‘em over with care. About some you will say, “I don’t choose to go there.” With your head full / 4 of brains and your shoes full of feet, you’re too smart to go down any not-so-good street. And / 5 you may not find any you’ll want to go down. In that case, of course, you’ll head straight out of / 6 town. It’s opener there in the wide open air. Out there things can happen and frequently do to people as / 7 brainy and footsy as you. And when things start to happen, don’t worry. Don’t stew. Just go right along. You’ll / 8 start happening too. OH! THE PLACES YOU’LL GO! You’ll be on your way up! You’ll be seeing great sights! You’ll / 9 join the high fliers who soar to high heights. You won’t lag behind, because you’ll have the speed. You’ll pass / 10 the whole gang and you’ll soon take the lead. Wherever you fly, you’ll be best of the best Wherever you / 11 go, you will top all the rest. Except when you don’t. Because, sometimes, you won’t. I’m sorry to say so / 12 but, sadly, it’s true that Bang-ups and Hang-ups can happen to you. And when you’re / 15 in a Slump, you’re not in for much fun. Un-slumping yourself is not easily done. You will come to a / 16 place where the streets are not marked. Some windows are lighted. But mostly they’re darked. You can get so confused that / 21 you’ll start in to race down long wiggled roads at a break-necking pace and grind on for miles across / 22 weirdish wild space, headed, I fear, toward a most useless place. The Waiting Place… …for people just waiting. Waiting for / 23 a train to go or a bus to come, or a plane to go or the mail to come or / 24 the rain to go or the phone to ring, or the snow to snow or waiting around for a Yes / 25 or No or waiting for their hair to grow. Everyone is just waiting. NO! That’s not for you! Somehow you’ll escape all / 29 that waiting and staying. You’ll find the bright places where the Boom Bands are playing.
