On October 6th, Saturday 2018 our sister college held a woman focus conference at UC Medical Center Betty Irene Moor Hall downtown Sacramento. The conference gave women the time to reconnect to with oneself and make connections with other women from the other surrounding colleges of the Los Rios Community College District (LRCCD). LRCCD is the second largest community college district in California.
The conference had five different workshops available: Self-Defense by Noah Willsmore, Mindfulness by Reggie Caldwell, Sexual Harassment by Alexander Casareno, Math Anxiety by Michelle Poliseno and Karla Rojas, and What is Trauma and What are Adverse childhood Experiences by Dr. Kristee Haggins.
The first session I attended was with Kristee Haggins, Ph.D, who discussed adverse childhood experiences (ACE) and ACE affect education. She explored what tips and tricks we can use to heal from those experiences.
The second breakout session was a self-defense class from Woodall’s Self Defense. They teach practical self-defense classes to empower women and have been partners with Woman Escaping A Violent Environment for the past 10 years.
The 4 Woman Focus Conference give a safe place for equity woman to feel strong, joyful, enlighten. Thanks to y Jaqueline Mathis, M.A. Extended Opportunity Programs & Services Counselor.
