Student Equity Advocates are hiring for Fall 2018! This is a paid student leadership position with flexible scheduling and work on campus. Student Equity Advocates are “a group of student leaders, who amplify the voices of our marginalized peers by educating the Folsom Lake College (FLC) community about diversity, through presentations and public events.”
Last year Student Equity Advocates gave two major presentations about Stereotype Threat and Gender-Based Violence. They assisted students dealing with trauma, advocated for DACA, African-American, and LGBTQ students, as well as created and gathered multiple equity related resources.
They also got the opportunity to participate in and plan multiple on campus events (FLC Out Loud and multiple Social Justice Spring events), as well as off campus events (MLK March and Women’s March).
It is a great way to meet more people on campus and expand your connections, including with faculty, staff, and admin. Last year’s cohort had the opportunity to have breakfast with President Yamamura and lunch with Chancellor King. They even got to meet an influential diversity trainer, Lee Mun Wah!
This year they hope to expand the program with more events and presentations but they need more help. A formal job description and application can be found on the FLC Student Life website. For more information, feel free to contact firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com.
You can also connect with them through their social media.
