Falcon Friday: Baseball, men’s & women’s tennis all earn season-opening victories
The FLC women’s tennis team opened their season with a 9-0 shutout of Cabrillo College on Friday afternoon at the FLC Tennis Complex. Sophomores Arielle Frank and Michelle Doyle were double winners as they won their singles matches, then teamed up to win 8-0 in doubles. Freshman Laura Parkyn earned a hard-fought comeback win, 7-5, 6-2 after falling behind 2-5 in the first set. FreshmenAbriana Rowe and Erin Cline played well in their collegiate debut as they easily handled Cabrillo’s #1 doubles team in their 8-2 win.

The Falcon men also opened with a convincing victory as they defeated Cabrillo, 8-1. The Falcons’ lone loss was in #1 doubles, where Cabrillo managed a close 8-6 win. Freshmen Jeff Chale and Josh Harder won in both singles and doubles, while sophomoresShawn Morgan and Praj Ta won in singles.

The men’s and women’s tennis teams will host Cosumnes River on Tuesday afternoon at the Falcon Tennis Complex.
The Falcons won on Opening Day for the third year in a row as they defeated Butte College on Friday afternoon in Oroville, 8-2. Folsom Lake sophomore pitcher Grant Dragmire kept the Roadrunners in check as he allowed just one hit through the first five innings. CatcherMason Allen put the Falcons on the board with a two-run homer in the sixth inning, his first of three hits. Freshman right fielder Carson McCusker also had three hits – including a home run and a double - and three RBI in his first collegiate game. Pitchers Austin Beard and Shane Gustafson shut down Butte over the final 3+ innings to preserve the win for the Falcons.
In their rematch on Saturday afternoon in Oroville, the Falcons were defeated by Butte, 17-12. After taking a 2-0 lead in their half of the first inning, the wheels fell off as the Roadrunners scored 13 runs on 8 hits, 3 errors, 2 walks, a balk, and a hit batter, all in the first inning. Despite being down by 11 runs, the Falcons battled back and made a game of it, scoring 10 more runs over the next eight innings while gathering 17 hits. Carson McCusker continued his torrid start at the plate with another home run and a double and four RBI, and sophomore Kale Leach added a three-run homer. Pitchers Reid Ramirez, Cody Lindsey, and Brandon Bachman allowed just one earned run over the final three innings.
The Falcons will have their home opener tonight (Monday) at Falcon Field against Butte, starting at 5:00 pm.
