If you have not been to Snowglobe, do yourself a favor and make a point of going next year. For those of you who have absolutely no idea what I'm talking about, let me explain. Snowglobe is an outdoor music festival held in South Lake Tahoe every December 29th -31th. Now, an outdoor, nighttime music festival in Tahoe in the middle of winter might seem like more of a punishment than something one would willingly pay money for but believe me, the below freezing temperatures are barely even noticeable. This was due to the fact that you're smashed in a crowd jumping up and down and dancing with hundreds of other people.
Past performers have included Wiz Khalifa, Royal Teeth, Bassnectar, Deadmau5, Childish Gambino and Pretty Lights, just to name a few. This year's line-up featured some returnees--Zion I, Dillon Francis, Gramatik, and Beats Antique--as well as some notable newcomers: Snoop Dogg, Tiësto, Kaskade, Zeds Dead, and Cut Copy. This might be a stretch, but I can honestly say that seeing Zion I was one of the happiest moments of my life. Seriously, I’ve never been in an atmosphere where so many people are so exciting and so happy to just to be at a certain place, in my entire life. On Saturday night, SnowGlobed featured flame throwers who, with flames on hula hoops, did tricks and dances to the beat of the music. There was also a wall with complementary cans of spray paint that you could use to graffiti at your will.
After speaking to the staff, I found that putting on the event was a lot of work. I learned that the staff spent fifty or more hours a week working with the artists and their managers to make all the specific arrangements for each individual act’s performance, tailoring the set to each act’s specific needs. After learning about the hours spent on creating the perfect three day festival, my already high thoughts of SnowGlobe were completely solidified. Before the festival, I hadn’t even heard of most of the artists I saw, but seeing them live was something I don’t know if words can explain. The entire combination of music, lights, people, and hype was an amazing time. I’d like to thank SnowGlobe for the media pass and the amazing New Year’s experience. See you next year!
