Bay Valley Conference leader Yuba College showed why the 49ers are in first place with a 3-0 victory over the Folsom Lake men yesterday in Marysville. The Falcons gave up an early goal, then tightened up their defense for the remainder of the first half to trail at the break, 1-0. However, the 49ers came out with two quick goals in the first five minutes of the second half to effectively put the game away. The loss drops the Falcons to 1-3 in BVC play and 3-10 overall. They’ll host Napa Valley, currently in third place in the BVC with a 2-1-1 record, this Friday at Falcon Stadium at 4:00 pm.
Ukiah is a long 3-1/2 hour bus ride from Folsom, but the return trip home probably felt much shorter last night as the Folsom Lake women’s soccer team basked in the glow of a tough 3-0 win over gritty Bay Valley Conference rival Mendocino. The Falcons’ defense, led by sophomore center back Kace Bailey, allowed the Eagles just four shots in the entire game, none of which made it past Falcon freshman goalkeeper Aubrey Hall. Goals by Karina Torres and Sami Thomas gave the Falcons a 2-0 halftime lead. Torres added another second-half goal while the defense earned their fourth shutout in a row.
With the win, the Falcons improved to 7-0-1 at the halfway point in the BVC schedule. The women begin round 2 of conference playon Friday when they travel to Napa for a 4:00 pm match against the Storm.
